Gifts of Tangible Personal Property include any item with a determinable value - art work, patents, copyrights, antiques, stamp or coin collections, jewelry, furniture, rare books, manuscripts, electronic equipment, musical instruments and much more. The Community Foundation of Troy reviews and approves property donations on a case by case basis. The donor may deduct the fair-market value of the property as a charitable contribution. If the Community Foundation of Troy uses your gift in a manner unrelated to its mission, the tax deduction is limited to the cost basis of the property. The IRS has established appraisal rules for such gifts. A tax receipt will be issued. These sorts of gifts often provide donors with immediate estate planning and tax benefits. Please call if you have any questions about your items.
The Community Foundation of Troy is now one of the charitable organizations participating in the Charity Motors Car Donation Program. People can donate a car they no longer want or need, receive a tax deduction, and designate one of the Foundation's endowment funds to receive the proceeds from the sale of their car. This donation may also be eligible to receive the Michigan Tax Credit.
If you are interested in participating in this program, please call Charity Motors at (313)255-1000 and designate:
Community Foundation of Troy -(indicate endowment fund name) as your charity.
Example: Community Foundation of Troy - Cultural Arts Fund
Proceeds from your donation to Charity Motors will be forwarded to the Foundation and a letter acknowledging your donation to the Foundation will be received within 60 days.
